Will an american hair straightener work in Australia? it is 120volt.....can you get some sort of converter?

NO!!

Please MAKE SURE it says it can hadle 240 Volts!!!! America uses different vltage to us and i read this article in the net:

';While it is easy to buy a plug adapter or a new ';local'; plug for your ';foreign'; appliances, in many cases this only solves half the problem, because it doesn't help with the possible voltage disparity. A 120-volt electrical appliance designed for use in North America [U.S.] or Japan will provide a nice fireworks display - complete with SPARKS and SMOKE - if plugged into a European[/other] socket. No it won't work until you get a converter. Australian power points are three rectangular prongs in a triangular shape, the upper two being on a diagonal.

Yes, you need a voltage converter; otherwise you'll overload the straightener and it will fry.

Be sure to get one that can handle up to 1600 watts. Plus you'll need a plug adapter.
