If you drop it in water of course.What will ruin a hair straightener?
Even the whole ';over-night'; thing may have been caused to time. The wiring inside may be messed up. So all the sudden, it seems like it just ';stopped'; working out of nowhere. But it's lead itself up to it. I have a HAI and I love it! But I read the reviews, and a lot of them said that the wire that is OUTSIDE of the straightener comes loose and it just doesn't turn on anymore. Thank God for the man who created warranty!

Wet/damp hair. It takes off the ceramic layer or something?
If you straighten with wet hair. Or step on them. I did that lol.
