Using a North American hair straightener in Europe?

I have a North American hair straightener. It says ';120 VAC, 60 Hz, 170W';.

I would like to use this appliance in Europe. Will an adapter suffice, or do I need a voltage converter? (The converter I have has two options, 50W or 1600W)

Thank you.Using a North American hair straightener in Europe?
Your hair straightener will blow up in Europe without a transformer (';voltage converter';). Your appliance label should indicate 120-220V in order to operate safely on European power with just a plug adapter. (My mom never understood this and presented her German hostess with a 120V electric teapot. It made a spectacular puff of smoke and sparks the first time it was turned on. Silly Mom.) If you will be traveling for any length of time, you might find a short hairstyle much more practical and easy to manage. Then you won't need to have extra appliances and heavy transformers weighing down your luggage.Using a North American hair straightener in Europe?
European voltage is 220-230 VAC, 50Hz. Without a voltage converter your appliance will either blow up or catch fire. You MUST buy a voltage converter.

As your converter has two settings, use the higher of the two.
