I'm in Korea and wanting to buy one of the high-quality hair straighteners made here.
The voltage in Korea is 220v/60HZ, which the irons are manufactured for. But back home it's 230v/50HZ - Would the irons blow-up (!) or wear out very quickly if I used them back home? I'm thinking the voltage difference (10v) is o.k, but how about the hertz??
Thank you :)60 - 50HZ Question (Hair Straighteners!)?
You'll probably need an adaptor to make the plugs work anyway, and those usually take care of the voltage differences.
As for the frequency, I suppose that depends on the features. If it has a built-in timer, for instance, that will be assuming that 60 oscillations is one second, and setting it for 5 minutes could result in 6 minutes of actual use.
The only other reason I can think of that the frequency would make a difference is if there's inductors and capacitors in there, since their reactance is frequency-dependent. But heating coils are really just resistors (the coil shapes provide too little magnetic field for inductance to matter much), so you should be okay.60 - 50HZ Question (Hair Straighteners!)?
frequency
no effect on heating elements (at those frequencies)
