Why don't hair straighteners make my hair shiney?

No matter what i do they never make my hair shiney, it drives me nuts because they make my friend's hair shiney! Why don't hair straighteners make my hair shiney?
Many things go into straight, shiny hair...

1) Texture - if you have very coarse hair its not going to look as shiny as medium or fine textured hair.

2) Product (not to mention HOW and WHEN you use it) First of all - dont use cheap store bought product like garnier, dove, suave, etc. I mean, you CAN but professional products use better ingerdients. A lot of store bought stuff has tons of oils in it (think Olive Oil) Sure, it makes your hair shiny but it will also make it greasy. Spend $15 on a GOOD hair serum - you can try Davines, Bumble and Bumble. If you ARE going to get a ';cheaper'; product go with - LOREAL. Believe it or not Loreal and Clairol are HUGE companies. Their store bought products are not AS good as the professional but theyre better than most of the others.

3) The straightner - Whats better - cheap? expensive? What size? Ceramic or Tourmaline? Ones that curl too? That one they sell at the mall? The one at WalMart? Hmmm...INVEST in YOURSELF. Get a nice iron - spend $100. This is something youre going to use probably 3-4 times a week. You dont want something cheap thats going to tear hair out, burn it, etc. My opinion? 1'; Tourmaline iron.

OK - now that all the BS is out of the way. Take your good hair serum - about a dime size for medium length hair and rub it in your hands - all over your hands (like you do when you wash your hands with soap)... flip your hair over and run your hands through all your hair. Start in the middle and do the outside last (you dont want it looking greasy). If you put the serum on first the iron will LOCK IN the shiny, glossy look AND it makes the iron slide through your hair more easily.

Next part your hair at the nape (in the back, bottom) Into 1'; sections run the iron SLOWLY down your hair. After you do that whole strip drop the next, and the next until youre done.

Good luck! Why don't hair straighteners make my hair shiney?
What kind of hair straightener do you use? What kind does your friend use? Different kinds of hair straighteners do different kinds of things. You could try the Conair Infiniti hair straightener to shine your hair. Also, you can straighten your hair with your regular straightener then buy shining conditioner to put in your hair. I like to use Head and Shoulders shampoo to make my hair shiny. Again, it all depends on what you use!
because hair straighteners arent supposed to do that..they make your hair sleek which can make it seem more shiney but it doesnt add shine. and if you already have straight hair, then they just make your hair flat and lifeless.
actually, you might need a good shampoo , like Redken ';all soft '; or Redken's ';All Smooth '; these make your hair really shinny and glossy , so that when you style it , it looks good, and not burned .. alot of drug store shampoos have alot of alcohol , that can dry hair over time ..

Invest in a good shampoo ..

also you might need to use color gloss for your hair ..

and buy a ceramic straightener ..

and go to Sally beauty supply or Hans Beauty and ask someone there to recommend a good product line for dry hair , or treatment that promote shiny smooth hair ..

those stores also have a great selection of hair treatment products , they even cary high quality salon products .

They're not very pricey , either ..
it could be the product you use before you straighten..

some good products to use are john freda frizz-ease, or dove products. those are the products i use, when i get out of the shower and my hair is damp i use the john freda.. brush my hair.. then use the dove one.. then i let my hair air dry.. then i use my straightner. your quality of hair straightner may also have to do with it.... or your shampoo or conditoner.. there are many factors
Your friend is using heat protecting shampoo that gives moisture to her hair. Change to products like that. Also try anto-frizz spray and apply a special gel to your hair before you straighten your hair.
Your friend probably uses some other products that protect her hair from the straighteners, which are actually not good for hair. Try using Garnier Fructis Glossing Spray, which would protect your hair from the straightener and keep your hair healthy.
i know that happens to me to and i try putting special oil and it still dosent work
straighteners are not meant to make ur hair shiny, just straight! ur friend probably uses something and just isnt saying. after you finish straightening it, use a good smoothing cream, i use fructis and it works wonders. they have a new smoothing cream and its really great. brush your hair through really well afterwards to make sure it spreads well and evenly.
your hair is probably too thick
hair staighteners arent suppose to make your hair shiny, they make your hair STRAIGHT.

ur friend probably puts oil or grease on her hair, cause that what i do and my hiar gets super shiny
